Once A Month Grocery Shopping {series}

Firstly, thanks for everyone who hung around during the last 2 weeks!
It’s been kindy & school holidays here in New Zealand, as well as Easter & Mr. Frills’ birthday. It was also my first holidays since starting Frills & Fun… apparently i need to plan ahead more!

Anyways, lets focus on the positive! I’m posting today : )

I thought that i would do a series on one of the biggest topics i get questions about…

Frugal Grocery Shopping & Meal Planning!!

For the past almost two years i have been doing

Once-a-month-grocery shopping

& it really works for us.

This means that i roughly plan my meals (around seasonal fruit & veg), shop at the supermarket just the once then top up our fruit and veg throughout the month.

Why do i OAM Shop?

There’s two main reasons. Time & Money.
My big grocery shop takes several hours as i go to several shops to get the best deals.
OAM Shopping allows you to buy in bulk which means better deals (usually!!),  for us it seems we have less wasted food when we plan monthly & the BIG one, the more times you go to the supermarket, the more money you spend!!! You know it’s true! ; ) When have you ever walked in for a bottle of milk & came out with JUST a bottle of milk??? ; )

I just did our May shop on Saturday! A week early i know but i didn’t do one last month as i wanted to eat down the freezer & pantry and we also had 4 days where we were away at youth camp. I’m pretty sure that i’ll be able to stretch the food over an extra week.

I’ll be taking you through the process step-by-step, sharing my tips & experiences.

So, here’s a sneak-peak into our kitchen…

The oven has been going ALL afternoon. I’ll share more tomorrow.
